Day 2 – Amsterdam to Nairobi

Amsterdam, Nairobi

Thursday, July 10, 2014

This day was characterized by our LONG overnight 12 hour layover in the Nairobi international terminal. We also lost 10 hours in the time change.

We had not wanted to get the yellow fever shot so we could not exit the airport to stay in a hotel for the night.

The terminal was small and not fancy like the Amsterdam airport was, just 2 basic cafes and a few small shops selling duty free and souvenirs. It was kept very clean though- employees mopping the floors and cleaning the bathrooms constantly.

Our legs and feet had swollen during the two 10 hour flights so we walked up and down about six times before having an excellent dinner at the cafe and then finding a spot at the end of the terminal to lie down and sleep for a while.

The most interesting thing about the airport was the variety of people from all continents waiting for their flights.

My poor American geography skills were no match for the Nairobi airport departure listings. I used some of my free 15 minutes of wifi to look up some of the cities.

Diverse crowd at the crowded Nairobi international terminal.

Was able to sleep surprisingly!
